Akagera National Park
Rwanda’s Big Five savannah
Lakes, plains, and a carefully restored Big Five park on Rwanda’s eastern edge.
Akagera’s lakes and acacia woodland are Rwanda’s Big Five savannah — lion, rhino, and elephant in a landscape still being restored. It is quieter than the Mara and a considered complement to Volcanoes.
Why here
We add Akagera when a Rwanda journey should not be only highlands: water, plains, and a different dawn.
Practical information
Two nights is the useful minimum. Boat time on the lakes is worth protecting in the itinerary.
